FILME: BATMAN - INTERPRETOU: CARL GRISSOM

Jack Palance apesar de ser um dos atores mais grisalhos de Hollywood, fez o papel de durão na maior parte de seus filmes. O filho de um mineiro de carvão nasceu como Vladimir Palahnuik em 18 de fevereiro de 1920 em Lattimer Mines na Pensilvânia. Seu histórico indubitavelmente o ajudou a moldar seus personagens na tela: Jack Palance trabalhou como seu pai nas minas de carvão, como boxeador profissional e na 2a Guerra Mundial ele pilotou bombardeiros, onde inclusive se acidentou. As severas queimaduras que recebeu fez com que fosse obrigado a diversas cirurgias reparadoras na face, o marcaram para sempre.

Palance trabalhou durante muitos anos no teatro antes de ir para Hollywood. Ele fez sua primeira apresentação num filme criminal dirigido por Elia Kazan em 1950 e chamado de "Panic in the Streets" (Pânico nas Ruas). Desde então fez parte de vários elencos de filmes semelhantes, como homem sinistro e vilão. Apesar disso em seus últimos papéis foi possível revelar o seu lado mais sensível e vulnerável. Pela sua performance em "Sudden Fear" (1952) e em "Shane" (1953) participou da lista do Oscar sobre Melhor Ator coadjuvante. Mais tarde nos anos 50 ele apareceu em vários filmes feitos no exterior (principalmente feitos na Itália), e chegando mesmo a estrelar um filme de Jean-Luc Godard em 1963 chamado "Lê Mépris", al'm de as séries para a televisão "The Greatest Show on Earth" (O maior Espetáculo da Terra) e "Bronk", bem como as novelas para a TV, como "Rod Serling" em 1956.

Nos anos 80 Jack Palance quase que desapareceu da linha de frente das câmeras, fazendo aparições ocasionais como no filme "Bagdá Café" e 1987, "Young Guns" em 1988 e Batman em 1989. Em 1991 Jack Palance foi apresentado à nova geração do "Oscar" e do "Globo de Ouro" por sua performance em "City Slickers". Ao aceitar participar na relação dos candidates o Melhor Ator Coadjuvante daquele ano, ele passou para a história do cinema como um homem de uma vitalidade considerável.
